Lieutenant Colonel THOMAS G. MARCUM

Lieutenant Colonel Thomas G. Marcum is currently assigned to the 130th Airlift Wing, West Virginia Air National Guard, McLaughlin Air National Guard Base, Charleston, West Virginia. He is currently serving as the Maintenance Group Commander. In this position, Colonel Marcum leads, trains, and equips personnel supporting aerospace equipment sustainment and operations. He administers aircraft maintenance programs and resources. Additionally, he directs aircraft maintenance production, staff activity, and related materiel programs.

Lt Col Marcum enlisted in the Air Force in July 1991, attending technical training school for Logistics, September 1991. He has a total of 34 years of service, four active and 32 with the West Virginia Air National Guard. During his enlisted years he worked logistics and aircraft maintenance as a C-130 Crew Chief and supervisor for the maintenance Plans & Scheduling office, where his enlisted career culminated with MSgt. Accepting a commission in May 2010, Lt Col Marcum assumed command of the 130th Maintenance Operations Flight. He served as the Installation Deployment Officer starting in 2015 and briefly as the Wing Executive Officer in 2019. He returned to aircraft maintenance in 2020 where he was assigned as commander of the 130th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. Prior to his current position, Lt Colonel Marcum was the Commander, 130 Maintenance Squadron, McLaughlin Air National Guard Base, Charleston, West Virginia.

As a maintainer he deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM to Tabuk Air Base, Saudi Arabia and Ali Al Saleem, Qatar. In support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, he deployed to Karshi-Khanabad Air Base, Uzbekistan and Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan. In 2022 he deployed in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE to Ali Al Saleem Air Base, as the Director of Operations for the 379th Maintenance Group. Lt Col Marcum has enjoyed diverse experience and opportunities, from representing the West Virginia National Guard in the state Emergency Operations Center, to developing the foundation for a deployment support element at Shaw Air Force Base as part of a Secretary of Defense top priority.
